Since 2009, the Whistler Athlete's Village Migration Control system, located in the Resort Municipality of Whistler British Columbia, has been maintained and monitored by Norseman Engineering. The system is situated on the site of the previously closed Whistler Landfill, and protects the residential properties of the adjacent Athlete's Village from potentially dangerous landfill gas migration. The system was installed after the site was selected as a venue for the 2010 Olympic Winter Games, and is made up of 14 wells, a number of horizontal collectors, numerous monitoring points, and a flaring station. Since the system's installation, it has successfully curtailed migration into the Athlete's Village and Cheakamus Crossing, preventing a potential explosion and health hazard. Norseman currently performs the ongoing monitoring of the site, and serves as a consultant to the resort municipality on future changes to the site.
